We've been trying to get hold of one of these to try for ages.  Finally our friends at the Volvo Truck & Bus Centre managed to get this handsome piece of kit to us.  Not the ideal spec with wet kit and weight saving mid-axle but we're not complaining.  It's been given a proper test pulling one of our crane trailers with 20t-26t of steel out each day and 26t of blocks back home.  Another strong contender at fleet replacement time for sure.

DAF demonstrator

Ford & Slater kindly loaned us their XF demonstrator recently.  In 6x2, 460, Space Cab guise it wasn't exactly our spec.  The wet kit and lightweight middle axle boxes would remain unchecked on our order form but made little difference to the experience.  We've run DAF tractor units on site shunting operations in the past and they've proved nigh on indestructible so we had high hopes.

Most of the drivers had a wander round it when it arrived and it was used by two drivers over the fortnight test period.  Fuel returns of 9.1mpg over the first week and 8.9mpg over the second is good going on our work patterns.  Generally there was a positive reaction from those who drove it and those who gave it a brief prod and poke.

We've two next generation Scania rental vehicles on at the moment.  It'll be interesting to see how they compare.

It's certainly given us food for thought.

A few additions...

A few of the drivers have kindly allowed me to use some of their personal photographs of the vehicles at work.  They've been added to "The fleet" page and the twitter feed.

It's all new.

We've had a hectic few weeks.  Not only have we had a couple of new starters to get up to speed, we've moved offices and upgraded our Traffic and Accounting IT systems.

Anyhow, it all seems to be settling down a bit so we can now focus on the next bit of the plan for 2017.

Onwards and upwards.....

Newbies....

After a couple of weeks of interviewing, we've recruited two new C+E drivers to the business.  They'll go through our induction and training process over their first couple of days before being introduced to our customers.

Let's see how they get on.....
